JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE FOR ARMED FORCES VETERANS(AFVs)

We thank you for visiting us. If you are currently not serving in the Armed Forces (Military/Fauj) or if you have not served earlier, we are not a resource open to you. We are Former Military personnel/Ex-Faujis ie Armed Forces Veterans(AFVs) only placement set up.

Career Post the Fauji Life

The personnel in the Armed Forces retire at an early age with vast experience and residual working years. Every year, 60,000 Armed Forces personnel retire .Of them 44 per cent are in the age group of 40-50, 33 per cent in 35-40 year age bracket while 12 per cent people leave the service at the age group of 30-35 years. Remainder of them retire beyond 50 years of age. The  AFVs  are thus a big pool of such committed people who have worked in difficult conditions and within good management practices.

Transitioning from the military can be a daunting prospect for anyone. It means leaving behind the routine that has become the way in which a person has lead their life for many years. With all the possibilities of a new location and line of livelihood, the number of opportunities can be many.

The dilemma is to choose between managing domestic affairs and again working away from the native place. The retirement benefits take care of the immediate needs of home and improving the infrastructure around the land holdings, if any. The desire of staying with family and lure of comforts of known surroundings tempt many to become self employed. Ultimately, the pressures of children education, family betterment and lack of decent paying jobs in their vicinity force AFVs to migrate to other places. However, there are no easy ways to find the best jobs when it's time to move into the civil workforce.

After exiting such a highly regimented environment as the Services, the newly discharged officer, soldier, sailor, or airman undoubtedly look for a job in which they can use their talents. For most AFVs, the job field is wide open since basic military skills and discipline can be applied to a variety of different jobs. When considering the nearly unlimited possibilities waiting for them, they have to make some tough decisions regarding money, family, and location.

AFVs face the same problem that their predecessors have grappled with for decades. What you learn in the Armed Forces often isn't recognized in the civilian world. One problem some AFVs face is that specific training they receive in the military also does not translate to certificates needed to work the same jobs in the civilian world. Many must take jobs below their skill set or spend money and time on duplicative training.

It is high time the civil/corporate needs to recognize the core competencies that AFVs bring to the table and utilize their services for meeting their requirements of manpower.

Making the Right Choice

The Armed Forces are one of the largest providers of skilled personnel and nation can't afford to ignore that. There's a demand for skilled workers. In the private sector, employers are constantly looking for disciplined employees to fill a wide range of positions. The skills you learn in the Armed Forces are highly translatable to the work environment. The trick is to projecting your rightful personality, market your skill and qualities in a way that employers will respond to.

AFVs often receive special treatment due to the sacrifices they have made during their service. However, finding a decent job is an issue for most recently discharged personnel. Government and PSUs jobs are well advertised to help find the job that is right for them. However, the same is not true for the corporate and other private companies, where the process of recruitment has undergone major change. Therefore, searching jobs by themselves by AFVs is not easy. Some fall prey to recruiters who get them only security jobs, where in many cases full talent is not utilized. The opportunities for you are many. The challenge is wading through the sheer volume of possibilities and deciding in which way one wishes to shape the remainder of their civilian life.
