Colonel RS Bhandari (Veteran), a Gunner Officer had his schooling from Sainik School Chitaurgarh and is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakvasla where he excelled in academics. He was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery of the Indian Army in December 1972 from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. 

He has held several crucial positions across the country spanning 33 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army in various terrains. These included participation in various operations{Operation Zeter (1984), Operation Rhino in the Districts of Johrat and Golaghat of Assam (1992-94),Operation Vijay in J & K(1999) and Operation Parakram in Rajasthan (2002)}and commanded  a Medium Regiment in the Western & Eastern theatres. In addition he commanded a Training Regiment at the Artillery Training Centre Nasik, which trained 2000 recruits at a time. As Director Recruiting in UP/Uttarakhand, he recruited aspirants in the Indian Army. His last assignment was in Jaipur as Administrative Commandant, when HQ South Western Command was raised. He retired in 2006.

Post retirement, he made significant contribution as the founder Country Head- Protocol & Security at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Mumbai from 2006 to 2014. He had set up the Protocol & Security Division there and introduced best practices. While in SEBI he voluntarily founded the Area Security Advisory Panel (ASAP), a vibrant corporate collaborative initiative and brought it under the Association of Members of ‘G’ Block, BKC (Mumbai). He steered it as Chief Coordinator till August 2014. This spearheaded strong neighbourly relations between various establishments in BKC for mutual support in security and disaster management. He was also the Vice Chairman of the Association and member of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Core Group (Improvement of Infrastructure in BKC).This pioneering collaborative approach has since caught the imagination of most security professionals in Mumbai and similar groupings have emerged for the larger good. After retiring from SEBI, for two years, he practiced as an Independent Security Management Consultant and a Visiting Faculty at Mumbai.

He is a fellow of the International Institute for Security & Safety Management (IISSM), New Delhi and has done numerous case studies, of which two have been award winning. In addition, he has been conferred with the “Best Security Professional 2012” award by the IISSM.He is also member of FSAI.

He regularly writes in newspapers on recruitment in the Indian Armed Forces etc and appears in talk shows on TV.

Colonel has passion to motivate, inspire and mentor youth with a positive attitude in their path of self discovery, leading to their preferred destination. In pursuance of the same he returned to Jaipur in 2016 and started Margdarshan Advisory & Consultancy Services.
